Editor's Review of Trend Micro Titanium Internet Security ("PC-cillin") - continued...
Oddly, the Parental Controls feature is not individually protected by a password so, technically, an older and more inventive child could turn off the controls unless the parent set a global password that would be required to make any changes to the suite.

Help & Support
The Help file included in Trend Micro Internet Security is extensive and should answer most questions you may have. That said, should you find yourself in need of additional help or technical support, Trend Micro makes plenty of options available – from interactive video solutions to automated answer guides to free technical support via email, chat or telephone.
It should be mentioned, however, that we did find a few cases where the local help file, although broad, was on the shallow side offering no more information than what was available in the descriptive text for the feature or option. The online document-based support also seemed a bit thin on occasion. To give an example, a search for “Parental Controls” in the Knowledge Base turned up just 7 articles, none of which addressed our question regarding how categories work. However, the large majority of users will find that Trend Micro Internet Security is so straight-forward that no help files are even necessary.
We also used Trend Micro’s chat service to try to find an answer to our Parental Control category question. We connected to the service and within 3 minutes a support specialist joined the chat. He asked for serial number and whether we had a case currently open. When we told him we were evaluating the software he took our question without a serial number. We asked him how the Parental Controls feature determines whether a site contains violent content. The technician responded by saying, “Trend Micro Internet Security has a database server of certain sites that filters out violent sites or by categories.” He went on to verify that if a site is not in their database, it won’t be caught by the filter and that we could submit sites for addition to the database if we’d like. This answered our question. The entire conversation took approximately 10 minutes. The support professional was knowledgeable and courteous.

Conclusion
Overall, Trend Micro Titanium Internet Security is a solid, well-rounded security suite well worth the fifty dollar price tag and is a step ahead of many of its competitors. With a very usable interface, strong detection tools, and a broad offering, this suite is a strong competitor in this very crowded space. Highly recommended!
